Sedation dentistry, also known as sleep dentistry, uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It can be administered through inhalation, oral, or intravenous (IV) routes. The aim is to help patients overcome fear and anxiety, ensuring a comfortable, stress-free experience.
At Family Dental Practice in Brighton-Le-Sands, we offer Happy Gas (Nitrous Oxide), a fast-acting and effective sedation method. Happy Gas helps you feel relaxed and calm while remaining fully conscious. It’s one of the safest sedation methods, quickly reversible, and requiring no downtime.
When to Consider Happy Gas:
Makes it easier for dentists to perform procedures.
Helps patients tolerate pain more easily.
Relaxed patients lead to quicker, more efficient procedures.
Alleviates dental anxiety for a more positive experience.
At the start of your appointment, a mask will be placed over your nose. You’ll first inhale oxygen followed by a blend of Nitrous Oxide. Throughout the procedure, you will be closely monitored and the Happy Gas strength will be adjusted to keep you comfortable. Local anaesthetic may also be administered if required.
At the end of the procedure, the effects of the gas are quickly reversed with oxygen, and you will feel back to normal within minutes.
Sedation dentistry is beneficial for patients with dental anxiety, a low pain threshold, or those needing lengthy or complex procedures. It’s also helpful for patients with physical limitations who struggle to sit still for long periods. Your dentist will evaluate your medical history and current health to ensure you are a suitable candidate.

They check up on me after every visit and also sends me reminders. Thank you, Dr. Fiona and team!Sven Meyer2024-04-19I recently visited Dr. Fiona's practice for a dental check-up and cleaning as my usual practice had no open spots. I was impressed by the professionalism and cleanliness of the practice. Dr. Fiona, along with her team including Lisa the practice manager and Nicoly the dental assistant, were exceptionally warm and helpful. I wouldn't usually describe a dentist visit as "enjoyable," but they made it just that by alleviating any anxiety and ensuring the process was smooth from start to finish. Highly recommend!Rhian2024-04-19Very friendly staff, helped with all my enquiries. Good overall service.Elizabeth Gilbert2024-04-13An exceptionally good Practice.
